the design for a new 282-unit apartment building in germantown was approved this week by metro. the demolition to begin the $40 million development, tentatively titled werthan flats, will start in january. it will be where the werthan packaging, inc was previously housed on fifth & taylor. they have since relocated most of their operations to white house, tennessee.
the developer, atlanta-based residential partners, plans to keep one of the warehouses (closest to taylor) and repurpose it long term for commercial retail and office space. they will also salvage a small building at the corner of taylor & fifth. they hope to break ground in february and says the project should take around 18 months.
