two new breweries, fat bottom brewing company & broadcast brewing company, are slated to open in east nashville later this year and surprisingly, they both ended up neighbors at 900 main street in east nashville. formerly the old fluffo mattress factory, developer dan heller has converted part of the space now for two new breweries (and a possible restaurant). he also plans to include an open-air beer garden and taproom to compliment the two new tenants. since they are “packaging breweries,” they will focus their attention mostly on selling to restaurants and bars so the taproom times may be limited but it’s a great opportunity for anyone who has a chance to come sample their hand-crafted beers.
when asked about his thoughts behind choosing that location, broadcast brewing owner mike causey said “broadcast brewing is excited to be a part of the vibrant and creative east nashville community. the main street location places us on the east-nashville-to-downtown connector and sharing the spot with another brewery will create a fantastic destination for beer fans in the east nashville community and the greater nashville area.” 
fat bottom brewing owner ben bredesen, son of former governor bill bredesen, says one thing that makes fbb a little different than most beers is they do not plan to filter their beers. although filtering makes them more stable to ship typically, he says it tends to lose a lot of the hops flavor and aroma. another bit of trivia is all of the fat bottom beers will have female names. bredesen plans to launch with four or five beers including one named ginger, a wheat beer brewed in the style of a pale ale only with ginger to add a twist although not to be confused with a ginger ale. initially, fat bottom will only be available via tap and growlers but hopes to bottle in the next year. more details to come later though.
causey isn’t sharing too many broadcast brewing specifics just yet either. he does say he plans to focus more on “session” beers, which tend to be a lighter easier beer drinking experience, as well as a line of high-alcohol beers for beer lovers who desire something stronger.
fat bottom brewing company hopes to open mid-may and broadcast brewing company, who just inked their lease, will open a few months later. fortunately, both breweries will be a part of the east nashville beer festival this year on march 31. tickets are available february 10 at 10am.
